The plastic (PVC) transparent pad serves to insulate the blade wire from the hand while gripping the weapon, effectively safeguarding the wire. This is also a requirement during tournaments, where the pad is necessary to prevent tampering. Transparent pads make inspecting the wires easier, especially during tournaments during pool inspections.
